Father of Atatiana Koquice Jefferson, the woman who was shot through her window by a cop while playing video games with her nephew, says he wants sheer justice, “Unlike Botham Jean, I don’t want no hug.”

Marquis Jefferson says his mother called him in the early hours of Saturday to tell him his only daughter had been shot dead by a Fort Worth officer.

Jefferson told KTXA news:

“My daughter was 28 years old, had her whole life in front of her, You have to know this is somebody’s daughter. Somebody loved her. There was a better way. It didn’t have to be like that.

According to Lee Merritt, the attorney representing the family, Jefferson was playing video games with her nephew when she heard someone making noise in her backyard.

Jefferson went to the window to inspect the noise, and through an obscure window, she was told to “put her hands up” by an officer who didn’t identify himself and shot Jefferson in seconds.

The shooting was compared to that of Botham Jean, who was murdered by Amber Guyger, a racist former cop was given hugs, forgiveness from the family, empathy and warm embraces by the Judge, and only a 10 year sentence after entering Jean’s apartment by “mistake” and firing at him while he ate ice cream.

Marquis Jefferson, the grieving father says there won’t be any empathy from him.

He told reporters:

Unlike Botham Jean, I don’t want no hug|he said. That’s my one and only daughter. I will never forget that.

Atatiana was an aspiring doctor who graduated with a pre-med degree from Xavier University of Louisiana in 2014.

Atatiana’s stepmother, Noella Jefferson, said that her daughter had dreams and hopes that will now never be fulfilled:

We have lost her for no reason. We have seen many cases like this where you think that they would have learned from it.

The police have confirmed that the officer did not identify himself in the shooting of Atatiana Jefferson, and will include that in their investigation.

The police have also confirmed that Jefferson’s nephew was in the same room as her when the police shot her through the window.
