A 3 year old toddler was unable to recognize his mother after Ice separated them for months.
A Honduran mother was crying to her child, “My love, I’m your mother, I’m your mother” as her son failed to recognize her due to being apart for so long.
“What’s wrong with my son, what’s wrong with my son” she pleaded.
The boy was Traumatized during their time apart because of ICE, and doesn’t recognize his mother anymore. The child pushes away from her, pushes off of her, and runs away from her.
The family did not enter the country illegally but presented themselves at a border crossing facility to seek asylum. They moved from Honduras to escape the extreme violent crime. The ACLU Just released that video.
The father was told to complete some paper work, as he turned around to fill out some papers, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents had shipped him to foster care in Michigan. He turned away for just a moment, and when he turned back, ICE had taken his son, he hadn’t noticed.
There was a family separation policy in place at the time, and it was shut down. The Reyes-Mejia family, that you see above in the video, was given priority to see their children because of how young the child is.
The ACLU reports that as of Thursday, there are currently 528 migrant children still separated from their families in federal custody.
