Maleah Davis’ Stepfather has been arrested in connection with her disappearance. New details about the case has been revealed. Investigators believe that Maleah Davis is not alive.
26-year-old Darion Vence has been arrested and charged with ‘tampering with a corpse’ in connection with her disappearance.
This comes 8 days after he told police different contradicting stories about Maleah being kidnapped by 3 men.
Darion Vence first told police that 3 men kidnapped him, his son, and Maleah Davis, then let both him and his son go, but kept Maleah Davis and escaped.
Police have not confirmed whether Maleah has died, but ABC news reports that investigators do not believe she’s alive.
Police reported that surveillance camera shows a man in the video, who they identify as Vence leaving the family’s apartment with a laundry basket and black garbage bag inside.
The girl’s mother has also accused her Ex Fiance, Vence, of suspiciously cleaning the apartment with Bleach the morning of her disappearance. She also says he was an abusive person.
Police reportedly found blood in his apartment.
Police now say that the laundry basket in the surveillance video, and a gas can was found in the trunk of a vehicle reported stolen by Vence.
Community activist Quanell X made a statement on Friday on behalf of Maleah’s mom Brittany Bowens at a press conference.
“On the day that Brittany left to be with her sick father – her dying father – to be with family, there was a huge fight between her and him. She confronted him about being gay. He was hurt, he was angry, he was upset. She told him she was giving back his ring and that she was not going to marry him. I believe that caused him to snap in anger. There were times where (Vence) would say (Maleah) was at day care, but he would bring her back, not drop her off at day care, but bring her back home with him. There is reason to believe, based on what I know now, there’s issues of him possibly molesting young Maleah. – She didn’t understand why he would be cleaning up the apartment,’ Quanell said. ‘But he went and bought an extra bottle of Clorox and came back.
Police reported that Vence’s story changed multiple times.
Vence was seen taking his son to the hospital the same day he reported the “kidnapping”.
That same vehicle he reported stolen on May 3rd, was seen on May 5th in that hospital parking lot. A woman spotted the gray Nissan Altima in the parking lot and reported it to police.
Last year Maleah was removed from her family along with her brother after it was reported that she had been abused. She had suffered a head injury and was sent to live with a relative for six months but in February this year, was allowed to return home to her mother, but was back to the hospital in March for brain surgery.
Her mother Bowens insisted she got the injury when she accidentally fell.
Bowens says she was on a trip in Massachusetts when Bowens disappeared, it’s still unclear what the trip was for.
Maleah’s biological father also says he wants answers as to what happened to Maleah, saying he’s:
not putting the blame on anybody’.
I just need the questions that aren’t answered to be answered. There are so many unanswered questions. It’s not for the police to answer them for me. It’s not for the news to answer them for me. It’s for Darion to answer for me.
