A known GWU professor confessed to being a white woman after pretending to be a Black Woman throughout her career.
Jessica Krug, a professor at George Washington University has come forward to confess and apologize that she’s been pretending to be a black woman her entire career.
She wrote out an apology on Medium where she stated the things she did while pretending to be a Black Woman, and assumed many different black ethnicities while doing so.
I have eschewed my lived experience as a white Jewish child in suburban Kansas City under various assumed identities within a Blackness that I had no right to claim: first North African Blackness, then US rooted Blackness, then Caribbean rooted Bronx Blackness.
According to her GWU faculty she’s a PhD, the author of a book on the Angolan slave trade and a “historian of politics, ideas, and cultural practices in Africa and the African Diaspora.”
She went on to state:
Mental health issues likely explain why I assumed a false identity initially, as a youth, and why I continued and developed it for so long. When I was a teenager fleeing trauma, I could just run away to a new place and become a new person. But this isn’t trauma that anyone imposed on me, this is harm that I have enacted onto so many others. There is nowhere to run. I have ended the life I had no right to live in the first place.”

She recently published in Essence magazine, whose target audience is African American Women.
Essense quickly took the post down a few minutes ago after the Jessica confessed.
