Police officers aggressively choked a black man and tasered him until he passed out because he had weed on him.

An Illinois police department has opened an investigation after a video showed multiple police officers using excessive force.

After the video went viral on social media, the DeKalb Police Department says it’s reviewing the video of police officers who choked 25-year-old Elonte McDowell, a black man who they say was in possession of weed.

McDowell’s girlfriend Alyssa Retuerto recorded the video and posted it on her social media with the caption:

For you guys to decide. Right or wrong?

Here’s the video:

The police department say they pulled the couple over after receiving a tip about a man having drugs on him. Officers say they recovered a felony amount of marijuana from McDowell.

McDowell told reporters that he admits to having the weed on him, but the amount of force that the officers displayed should not be permitted. McDowell said:

“This is what some police officers do and you have to put a stand on it. It’s not OK. … It needs to get out there. It happened one too many times. This happens every day.”

McDowell was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis with the intent to deliver, unlawful possession of cannabis, criminal trespass to property and resisting a peace officer.

The police department says it has placed the officer on placed McDowell in the chokehold on administrative leave pending the investigation.

A few days ago, police were chased by a naked man who just murdered three people.

I need you to watch this. He just murdered two women and a child. He literally chases the police. Beats them. Chokes a man. And for an hour this goes on all while police in Virginia refuse to use lethal force. They use sprays. They use sticks. But guns are clearly not an option for them. Listen. I’m glad. But I can name 25 completely nude Black men and women, who were unarmed, and didn’t kill anybody at all, that got shot and killed by police right away. I say this daily, but police know damn well how to avoid lethal force. They just choose when and where right down racial lines. Also, follow @FlipTheSenate because when we do so, we are going to introduce new legislation to change police policies nationwide.
