The police are claiming a teenager committed suicide by shooting a bullet through the front of her mouth while her hands were handcuffed behind her back. They say the bodycam happened to be turned off at the time.
A teen’s death has been ruled a suicide after the medical examiner’s office in Virginia say the 19-year-old woman died from a gunshot wound through her mouth while her hands were cuffed behind her back.
Police say the teen shot herself through the front of her mouth while they were trying to detain her boyfriend, 27-year-old Holden Medlin.
On July 25, 2018, police say they stopped Sarah Wilson to conduct a narcotics search. They were stopped by two police officers, one patrol and one from narcotics.
Police say they separated Wilson and her partner to question them, but first handcuffed Wilson behind the back. Police say one of the officers tried to subdue her boyfriend who was combative and continuously tried to flee.
While both officers tried to detain the boyfriend, according to police one the officers bodycam had fallen off and got turned off on its own when it hit the ground.
Police say that when they left Wilson alone, she apparently managed to get a gun within the car she was handcuffed in, “contorted” her body, and was able to get her arms in front of her face from the back to aim straight into her mouth and shoot herself through the mouth from the front while still wearing handcuffs.
It’s reported that police are not able to explain how Wilson was able to get the gun, and Police say that it wasn’t a law enforcement issued weapon.
Police say only one of the officers was wearing a bodycam at the time, and that was the one knocked off while trying to detain Wilson’s boyfriend.
Chesapeake police say they investigated and the case has been concluded, and ruled a suicide and that will be the end of it. They have declined to comment on the outcome.
Medlin is currently facing drug charges as police say he swallowed a bag of possible drugs in it at the time of the arrest.
Eyewitnesses in an uploaded video contradict what police say, saying that Police shot her and she didn’t have a chance.
