Matt Barnes and his ex-wife Gloria Govan’s legal battles are still continuing.
Matt Barnes, Former NBA star, according to new documents recovered by The Blast, currently has full custody of his twin boys, but is continuing to pay child support to his Ex Wife. The former basketball star is now hoping to lower his Child Support.
He told the judge that because he has full custody of the kids, he should at least pay be able to pay less.
Matt Barnes is currently paying $20,000 a month in Child Support. He’s also covering the cost of the boys’ private school tuition.
Matt Barnes is still making $161,000 a month, even though he hasn’t played in the NBA since 2017. He told the judge that Govan hasn’t worked since her last appearance on “Basketball Wives” in 2011.
He asked the judge to calculate the amount of money she could be making if she went out and got a job, and factor that into his Child Support decrease.
They are set to meet in court next week.
Just to put things into perspective, apparently full custody doesn’t mean absolute custody. According to the law, you still have financial obligations if you make more money than the other parent, and the other parent will be spending some time with the children. The Child Support will be used for the amount of time the parent who’s receiving it, Govan in this case, will be spending with the children on any type of schedule.
Barnes was apparently granted Legal and physical custody of the kids, and they’ll be living with him. But he currently still has has to pay child support of $20,000 a month because of his income, and is hoping that that will change when they meet in court next week.
