A male teenager used the Snapchat gender bending feature to catch a police officer who was looking to hook up with under age girls.
A male student named Ethan created a fake tinder profile to try to catch predators who were looking to hookup with girls who were underaged.
He created the tinder profile and used the new Snapchat gender bending feature to make himself look like a teenage girl
Ethan then received one message from a San Mateo police officer named Robert Davies.
Ethan told NBC’s Bay Area affiliate:
I believe he messaged me, ‘Are you down to have some fun tonight?’ and I decided to take advantage of it.
Ethan proceeded to tell the cop that he was 16 years old, and according to authorities who investigated the situation, Davies did not mind that the “girl” he was talking to was 16, and continued the conversation to try and hook up with her.
We started texting on there, and it got a lot more explicit
Ethan said his an wasn’t to catch a cop, and he was just trying to catch any predator, saying:
“I was just looking to get someone. He just happened to be a cop.”
Davies was arrested by San Jose police. He faces a charge of contacting a minor to commit a felony. He has been placed on administrative leave by the San Mateo PD. The police department released a statement saying:
This alleged conduct, if true, is in no way a reflection of all that we stand for as a Department, and is an affront to the tenets of our department and our profession as a whole. As San Mateo police officers, we have sworn an oath to serve and protect our communities. I can assure you that we remain steadfast to this commitment to serving our community with ‘Professionalism, Integrity, and Excellence.’
