Heidi Klum says she experienced terrible insults when she took America’s Got Talent’s side instead of Gabrielle Union when Gabrielle reported she experienced racism. Klum says she was called a white woman. She says AGT was kind and she never experienced what Gabrielle did.
In an interview with Page Six, Heidi Klum says she received backlash and insults when she took America’s Got Talent’s side in its controversy with Gabrielle Union.
She told the reporters that she hadn’t personally experienced any of the things Gabrielle Union said she experienced, and the AGT staff were kind to her which is why she took their side.
She told Page Six:
“A lot of people got mad at me. I was called, for example, ‘a white woman.’”
Klum went on to state that it’s important for everyone to tell their personal truths, and that her personal truth was different:
“I think it is important for everyone to speak their truth. I think that when there is a story, it should be told. I had a different story… I’ve only had an amazing experience. I can’t speak for her. I didn’t experience the same thing. To me, everyone treats you with the utmost respect. I’ve never seen anything that was weird or hurtful.”
Days later, after a lot of the things she said got backlash, she tried to clarify what she claims she meant to People Magazine.
She told the publication:
“I am aware that my experience may not be the same as Gabrielle’s. What I can tell you is that I am a fierce advocate for all people, no matter their race, age, religion, gender or sexuality. Everyone should be treated equally and with utmost respect. Personally, I have experienced very hurtful things while being married to a man of color and having three beautiful children with him. While everyone’s challenges are different, I want nothing more than for a just world and for people to be kinder to one another,”
This comes after Terry Crews spoke about his experience at America’s Got Talent in comparison to what Gabrielle Union says she went through. He’s now under fire because Gabrielle Union was one his biggest vocal supporters in his sexual assault.
During an interview on the Today Show, Terry Crews was asked about the Gabrielle Union controversy at America’s Got Talent.
Variety published a report where Gabrielle Union stated that the network wasn’t picking her contract back up after they’ve made an insensitive black joke, and also stated that her hairstyles were too black for the show.
In the interview Terry Crews stated that he had no problems of racism at the show, and it just wasn’t his experience.
He said he can speak on the racism because he’s a black man.
“First of all, I can’t speak for sexism because I’m not a woman, but I can speak on behalf of any racism comments. That was never my experience on ‘America’s Got Talent.’”
“In fact, it was the most diverse place I have ever been in my 20 years of entertainment.”
