In 2014, a woman called in a noise complaint across the street while picking up her child from school, and Deputy Christopher Newman killed Gregory Hill Jr. Newman and another officer went to Hill’s home, and when he opened the garaged partially, then CLOSED the garage door, the officer shot him 4 times through the door, hitting him once in the head. The officer said Hill had a handgun. No charges were filed on the officer, he was charged with nothing.
A SWAT team was also then sent to the house. The mother filed a case for a wrongful death because she says the SWAT team used too much force.
And now, today, the jury found that Hill was 99% responsibly for his own death, and reward the family $1 for the funeral expenses, and $1 to each child for their “Loss of parental companionship, instruction, and guidance and … mental pain and suffering.”
