There’s been gruesome news, that children at the Virginia Detention center has been mistreating children.
A state review of the center has confirmed that methods that can include strapping children down and placing mesh bags over their heads has been used by the facility.
The Ap news network published a review of first person interviews done with children as young as 14 years old, who say they’ve been shackled, handcuffed, and beaten by the facility located near Staunton, Virginia. The children have also said they’ve been stripped naked, and also held in solitary confinement for days. Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam ordered this review in June after reading that report.
Investigators went in to “check out the place”, and after confirming that methods like stripping children down to chairs and placing mesh bags over their heads can be used, that everything is Legal and fine. The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice investigators concluded that the “Abuse” described, did not the “Legal Threshold”, that they’ve conducted their investigation and didn’t find anything that passes for abuse.
Investigators say the method of strapping detainees down into chairs, and placing mesh bags over their heads is a legal method used to confine those who are unruly in the center, and is never used as punishment, but only used to make sure others in the center are kept safe.
