A white police officer shot a Black Woman inside her nephews home whom she was visiting in Fort Worth Texas. The officer shot her through her window while he was standing outside. He said he felt “threatened”. The police had been called for just a Welfare Check, nothing else. Body Cam Footage released.
Early Saturday, a white Fort Worth police officer shot and killed a woman who was visiting family. The police had been called for a Welfare Check.
According to police, the officers were searching the perimeter of the home when an officer saw a person standing inside through the window. That’s when officials say a police officer shot once through the window when he saw her, saying he “perceived a threat.”
Bodycam footage shows the officer standing outside the front door of the home before walking to the side of the house, and opening the gate to get into the backyard.
The footage shows the officer yelling “Put your hands up. Show me your hands!” before firing a shot through the window.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave. The victim’s name is Atatiana Koquice Jefferson, she’s originally from Texas. The police officer shot her within 4 seconds giving his “demands” through an obscure window.
James Smith, Jefferson’s neighbor who called the police, says he called the non-emergency police number to request a welfare check at his neighbor’s house. He said he saw the lights on and the front door open.
Smith told reporters:
“I called my police department for a welfare check. No domestic violence, no arguing, nothing that they should have been concerned about as far as them coming with guns drawn to my neighbor’s house,”
“I don’t know what went on in that house, but I know she wasn’t a threat,”
Activists in the community are demanding answers as to why the black woman was shot:

Police now claim they found a firearm inside the residence, but they did not say where the gun was found nor if the officer had seen the gun before he shot through the window.
