A 5th grader has reportedly died from being in a classroom fight.
RaNiya Wright, was airlifted to Medical University of South Carolina for treatment after a fight she had on Monday.
WCIV reports that Wright had been unresponsive and in critical condition since the fight on Monday.
a spokesperson wrote on the school district’s website:
“We are devastated by this news, and we want our communities to keep their thoughts and prayers with the student’s family at this time,”
The fight happened between Wright and another student. So far no one has been charged, but the other student has been suspended from the school indefinitely.
What lead up to the fight still remains unclear, but the fight is still being investigated.
10-year-old RaNiya Wright suffered injuries during the fight, reportedly passed away at 9:39 a.m. EDT on Wednesday morning at the Medical University of South Carolina.
A GoFundMe was created by the family to support RaNiya’s mother in paying for medical and funeral expenses.
Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey said Wright will undergo an autopsy at MUSC most likely on Friday morning.
