a 28 year old man, Goodwin, murdered his 17 year old ex girlfriend, LaShonda Childs, because she broke up with him.
Goodwin and LaShonda started dating last September in 2017, according to her LaShonda’s mother, Nina Childs.
According to reports, LaShonda didn’t know he was 28, the man lied to her and told her that he was 20 years old. When she found out, she broke up with him.
Nina Childs says:
“It’s very devastating. It’s something that will be devastating for the rest of my life.”
She hopes the story will be an example for other women in a similar situation.
Nina Childs continues to say,
“He was the type of guy who would call you 70 times a day, Nonstop. It was aggravating as well as annoying and scary.”
At a certain point, LaShonda filed for protective order against Goodwin. It was never served as Goodwin reportedly kept avoiding it.
Eventually, LaShonda started to confide in her mother about her situation.
Nina Childs said:
“LaShonda told me, ‘You know mom he made me walk from our house to his house with a gun pointed at my back. I was scared for my life as well as my family’s life,’”
Tuesday morning Police arrived to Nina’s door, and when she opened it she said she knew something had happened.
She said the Police asked if everything is alright and let her answer before continuing, she responded saying “I said, ‘Well as far as I know. Why are you here?’”. The police then proceeded to tell her that LaShonda had been in an altercation, without mentioning that LaShonda had been shot nor did they mention Goodwin.
She then tried to call her daughter, but LaShonda didn’t pick up. Detectives arrived shortly after and asked Nina if she knew what had happened between LaShonda and Goodwin
“I told them there was a protection order in place. The basic reason was that she did not want to date him. He had posted lots of things on Facebook that he would kill her.”
It’s at that point that they told Nina that her daughter had been shot, and taken to Grandview Medical Center.
When she arrived at the hospital, she said she had to take some time to herself because she couldn’t see her daughter in that state.
She called LaShonda’s brother, Jaylon, and told him what had happened.
“I was at Walmart shopping. I left the cart where it was, dropped everything and headed straight to the hospital … It was hard, I’d seen her in the hospital before, but nothing like that.”
When Nina went back to see LaShonda, she said she knew her daughter was dead.
“It was very obvious. Looking at her I knew she had already died.”
Around 1:20 a.m, Nina received a call from Grandview and she was told LaShonda had died.
Lashonda’s Brother, Jaylon said,
“I just want to tell all the young girls, all the females, families, friends, if you see the signs, don’t ignore them. Do what you got to do. Use the resources. There’s too many out here not to.”
